Sightseeing in
Gangtok |
| |
|
|
| |
Gangtok, despite being a capital
city bustling with trade and business activity,
offers some of the most enchanting sightseeing
options. An ideal relaxed holiday would require at
least 3 to 4 days of stay for covering most of its
attraction. However if you have time constraints,
then you may have to squeeze it to two day action
packed program. It is recommended that you keep Day
1(Full Day) for a local sightseeing in and around
Gangtok, this is basically to acclimatize you before
heading to the higher altitudes. On day 2 you could
perhaps head for a full day excursion to high
altitudes of Tshangu Lake, Nathula Pass, and Baba
Mandir. Your local sightseeing in Gangtok has to be
done necessarily by a 4 seater Maruti vans as medium
and larger vehicles are not allowed to do so. Your
local Sightseeing in Gangtok usually comes in

Day 2: Excursion Plan |
|
| |
Your excursion on day two covers
a choice between two plans. |
|
| |
Plan A: Tshangu Lake / Nathula
Pass / Baba Mandir.
To be noted: The whole trip takes about 9 to 10
hours. Being a high security zone-the trip needs to
be booked at least 2 days in advance as permit
procurement takes one full day. Only registered
travel agents can arrange for permits. Your names
along with respective ages , sex and address is
required for permit procurement process. The route
is open only 5 days in a week– Wednesday to Sunday,
so you need to plan accordingly. Warm clothing is a
must as you will be traveling to an altitude of
14,450 feet. Usual departure time: 7:30 to 8:00 in
the morning. Note: Foreign tourists are not
permitted to visit Nathula |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Plan B: Tshangu Lake and Baba
Mandir only
The excursion takes about 7 hours. The permit
procurement takes only about half an hour so this
can be planned just a day in advance. The excursion
however has to be booked through registered travel
agents only. Permit requisites are same as above,
however this route is open seven days a week. Warm
clothing is a must though you will be traveling to
slightly lesser altitude then Nathula. Usual
departure: 7:30 to 9:30. Foreigner can visit only
until Tshangu lake if they are in a group of 4. |
